France is the best. Russia is the second
The championship in St.-Petersburg finished with the victory of France, which had won four gold, two silver an two bronze medals. The owners of the Championship, Russians are on the second place – two gold, two silver and one bronze medals.
In the last day of the Championship the French team won another gold medal in the team competitions in male epee. In this type of program the French team, beginning from 2002 year, has won four World Championships and also Olympic Games in Athens.
After the success in individual competitions Italian foil-fencers announced that they had come to St.-Petersburg to win in the team competitions. But the Italians didn’t take into consideration that it was necessary to have a right to participate in final. So, they lost in quarter-final in the bout with the team of Japan 16:17 and took only the fifth place.
The teams from
Russia and
Poland participated in the final bout. It was a hard bout, in the end of which Silwia Gruchala made victorious touch to Evgenia Lamova 26:25.
