Caviar, Hermitage and “Swan Lake”

Hungarian sabre-fencers and French epee-fencers are fascinated with Russia.

French girls who won team competitions in epee seemed tired and even a little bit sad, but they made us believe, that’s not true.

- Of course, when the Russians equalized and even started to lead, we felt somewhat uncomfortable, - confessed Hajnalka Kiraly Picot.

- Now, all your thoughts are probably about the Olympic Games, right?

- You’ve already know that we won’t have team competition, that is why we’re going to participate in the Olympic selection for the individual competition. Look at us, you see four world champions (we are all from France!), and for sure in our country and even more in other countries there are so many epee-fencers who are dreaming about going to Beijing. So, without any doubt we’ll have a big rivalry at home.

- A question for Kiraly: You are from Hungary. Who were you supporting during the men’s final in saber?

- I’m sympathizing with Hungarian athletes, but it’s been a long time that I fence for the French team. So, I wish good luck to both teams.

- Russian women like French perfume. Could you tell us some Russian things that you like?

- It’s caviar! – answered Flessel-Colovic without hesitate. Then her team-mates added:

- We had a chance to go sightseeing in Saint Petersburg, then we saw the ballet “Swan Lake”. It was amazing .

Hungarian sabre-fencers said a lot of fair words about the city on the Neva and especially the Hermitage that they were lucky to visit. Returning to our sport, they were pleased with their performance, now they became more confident, so they are looking forward for the Olympic team competitions, especially a young 17 years old Aron Szilgyi, the debutant of the World Championship, who was great in team competitions and defeated the Russian Stanislav Pozdniakov and the French Boris Sanson. He will always remember that bout in team competitions.

A question for both teams: how will you celebrate your victories?

Frech athletes :

- We’ll wait for tomorrow when our team-mates compete. And then, be sure, we’ll celebrate the victory and we won’t go without French wine, which is famous all other the world.

Hungarians :

- We are going to have a grand supper with some champagne. Unfortunately, tomorrow we're going home.
