Greeting
On behalf of the organizers of this event I have the privilege of welcoming you to the World Fencing Championship. It was 40 years ago that the World Championship last time came to St. Petersburg, the fencing capital of Russia. Over many years, Russian fencers have achieved significant success in the international fencing arena, and the World Championship in St. Petersburg is a sign of the international recognition of their high achievement. As a former fencer and Vice-president of the Russian Fencing Federation and President of the St. Petersburg Fencing Federation, I am proud to lead a major international competition in our sport. In 2007 Russia hosts just one more event of this scale - the World Championships of Hockey. We will try to give the World Fencing Championship an elegant style, befitting our sport. I hope that the competition will take place in an atmosphere of festivity and friendship. I am also sure that such a prestigious competition will inspire young athletes and make fencing even more popular with the youth as one of the noblest ancient martial arts. Guests of the World Championship will have an ample opportunity to enjoy the competition of the world’s best fencers and give them their support. I wish participant every success.
